Halfway House

  1. Explanantion: The painting is one element of an installation I am creating. The installation is a fictional narrative composed of carpet, objects and of course the painting. It begins with a script that the viewers can pick up and choose to role play two possible characters if they wish. The script helps to co-ordinate the viewer through the installation space as well as offering him/her a new temporary identity. The story is a modern sequel to Oedipus Rex, the Greek tragedy. The content of the script is between a patient and a psychiatrist (the patient is Oedipus’ son!) and follows the patient’s quest for a rational enlightenment with the aide of the psychiatrist. The painting is still unfinished and is 8 metres in length and about 1 metre in height.
